General English Course
This English programme is ideal for students who wish to both learn English and make the most out of our afternoon and evening social activities programme. General English course includes 20 lessons of General English a week. The General English Course is designed to give you the confidence to communicate effectively in real-life situations. The course provides a balanced programme, focusing on the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, whilst covering essential grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, idioms and colloquial language.
English For Teachers
St Giles was one of the first organisations to offer training for English language teachers in the UK. Today our organisation offers courses for native or near-native speakers of English who wish to become teachers or to develop their skills. The teachers' course in St. Giles Brighton consists of 26 lessons per week and aims to meet your professional needs and are ideal for overseas teachers of English.
The educational process is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part of the course includes the following sections: grammar structures and their functioning; teaching methods; work on the mistakes; sources and materials for the lesson and others. The structure of the practical part of the course: lessons in small groups; discussion of theory and practice with colleagues and supervisors; development of the lesson plan under the direction of curator. Mixed nationality classes allow you to share ideas and experience with colleagues from other countries.
Activities and excursions
The school offers an exciting and varied activity programme at St Giles Brighton, giving you plenty of opportunities to explore the UK and Europe during your time in school. Regular activities include: film night, bowling, pub night, cream tea afternoon, football, yoga classes, etc. The school organizes the regular weekend excursions to London, Cambridge, Oxford, Canterbury & Leeds Castle. The students can join them for an additional fee.
Accommodation
The accommodation in host families is the ideal choice if you want to practise your English outside the classroom and learn about British culture and way of life first hand. You will stay with an English-speaking host in their home in double rooms. Travelling time from Homestay to the centre is usually around 15-30 minutes by bus, although some homes are located within walking distance. Public transport in Brighton is good and reliable and students travelling by bus can buy weekly passes at reduced rates. The accommodation is on half board basis (breakfast and dinner are included in the programme cost).
